Looking out for each other, every shift.
Every October, workplaces across Australia mark National Safe Work Month. It’s a chance for employers to renew their commitment to safe and healthy workplaces. The 2026 theme is Safe work is for life. It reflects what work health and safety is really for: protecting workers’ lives, their health and their future. Over the month, the campaign moves through four weekly focus areas: for life, for health, for the future and for all.
At Teys, that theme feels very familiar. It sits at the core of how we work.
Nothing we do is worth getting hurt for
Keeping our workforce and contractors safe is, and always has been, our most important commitment. Wherever our people work and whatever they do, we want them and their families to feel confident they’ll return home the way they arrived: safely. That’s because Nothing We Do Is Worth Getting Hurt For.
For us, safety has never been a list of check boxes. It’s part of our culture, and it reflects our focus on looking after our people and communities now and for generations to come.
Every day, every month – not just in October
Our commitment to safety doesn’t start on 1 October or end on the 31st. Across our 14 locations, it’s part of every shift, every task and every conversation. Still, National Safe Work Month matters to us. It gives teams across our processing plants, feedlots and offices a shared moment to reinforce that commitment and to celebrate the progress we’ve made together.
“October gives us a valuable focus, but safety is critical every single day,” says Lonnie Toia, GM Workplace Health and Safety at Teys. “The real difference is made by our people on the ground. It comes from speaking up, looking out for each other and making sure everyone gets home safely after every shift.”

Safety led by our people
We know our people on the ground have the biggest impact on safety. Our WHS Managers and their teams work at every level of the business and at each of our operations. That lets us tailor our practices to each site and its people.
Safety committees made up of on-site WHS Representatives lead discussions with their teams. They help manage risks and keep our programs practical and relevant. Our committees also promote a speak up for safety culture, and we encourage everyone to report hazards as soon as possible.
Leadership, systems and wellbeing
Our award-winning safety leadership program supports leaders at each operation to drive their team’s safety performance. Everyone who works with us understands and promotes our safety deal breakers: practical rules and procedures that remove the chance of injury. Our Safety Management System documents, tracks and measures safety performance across our operations so we can stay ahead of risks.
We also know that healthy, happy people are safer people. That’s why we offer fitness and mental health programs, including on-site fitness and conditioning centres at some sites. We also run Mental Health First Aid and SAFE Conversations training.
For life
This October, we’re proud to stand with workplaces across Australia for National Safe Work Month. For our 14 sites, the message stays the same in November and in every month after that: safe work is for life, and nothing we do is worth getting hurt for.
