Sauerkraut is a form of fermented cabbage that has been popular throughout Central Europe for hundreds of years. Sauerkraut combines one of the healthiest vegetables (cabbage) with one of the most beneficial methods of food preparation (fermentation).
It also tastes fantastic with grilled bratwurst! Sauerkraut can be bought from the supermarket or made at home.
Authentic German Potato Salad (Kartoffelsalat)
Authentic German potato salad is similar to regular potato salad, but it doesn’t have eggs or mayonnaise. Instead, German potato salad contains thick-cut bacon, potatoes, mustard and chives.
For a true authentic experience, serve German potato salad and bratwurst with sweet and sour red cabbage (found below!).

Sweet and sour red cabbage is a beloved German dish that contains red cabbage, apples, red wine, sugar and cloves.
This dish can be found in virtually every home and restaurant throughout Germany. Rotkohl is traditionally served with beef roasts, rouladen or bratwurst.

Creamy cucumber salad is a cool and refreshing side dish that is perfect for summertime BBQs.
The salad contains cucumbers, sour cream, dill, parsley and paprika, and the combination is delicious, fresh and moreish.
